The mood is somber.when visiting people who just lost a loved one, and rightly so. The departed will be sorely missed. So the one who can make them laugh a little is greatly appreciated. This person can deeply sympathize with them in their grief, and doesn’t take the situation lightly. But a break in the heavy atmosphere to bring some laughter reminds us that life goes on, and there is still much joy ahead. A laugh or two will be a reprieve, even if only momentarily, from a depressing state of mind and bring some light to the darkness. The guest doing that, while showing true commiseration, is most welcomed.
